When I was at KSJO in San Jose I was frequently asked to go out with the Salesdroids? One sunny afternoon a potential client said, "I've used radio and it doesn't work!"

The salesman who was very good said, "Tell you what, I'll go back to the station"-he pointed to a large screen TV, "and when I get there I'll have the DJ announce you're giving that away." The owner said, "NO! We can't do that". The Salesman said, "Then we agree? radio works; perhaps, it was your message that didn't?"

WHAT THE STATION DOES:

If you’re lucky, the Production Director may write and produce your commercial—however, he might not have time; most likely, he will assign it to someone with less experience who isn’t busy.

Does a professional copywriter create your ad? Perhaps—it could be written by anyone, your account executive, the receptionist, an intern, who knows?

Here is the point: The Production Director is a busy guy; he’s interested in finishing the day so his IN box is empty; for tomorrow there will be more spots, many more.

If you have a competitor the same person who wrote your competitor’s spot may write yours—not good!

When your ad ceases to pull, you might hear maybe we should freshen the copy? Some stations will run the same spot forever as long as you pay the bill. Fresh and inventive commercials are vital; it is the reason Hydro-Radio works

I have worked up & down the Coast (KSJO, KOME San Jose, KZAP Sacramento, & KABC Los Angeles, to name a few) as a copy writer, announcer and fulltime Production Director. Recently I left a Marketing position at Cisco Systems to pursue Hydro-Radio full-time.

NO! You will have exclusivity. Hydro-Radio will not run in your market. However, you could hear spots from a distant or fringe station.

The humorous Talking Plant series are 60's with thirty-second themes: Climate, Nutrient, Light & Pests.
We write copy using your sale items (creating a full 60). Themes run approximately 30 seconds. Here is an example: If we ran the Nutrient spot, you’d give us items that tie into that theme. The Talking Plant spots can be run in rotation, or if you were having a sale on HP Sodium bulbs, you could run the Light spot exclusively.

Hydroman Sez: Helps you act as the Grand Pooh-Bah-grow-authority; spots provide knowledge, send eyeballs to your web site, and build a database of e-mail addresses. (The demo spot is about cloning). Tips will change periodically with your input.

What constitutes an in-house advertising agency?

—You provide the finished commercial—all the station does is pick up your check and the spot.

—Use Hilsabeck & Associates, or invent a name: Hydro r Us, MoGreen, whatever.

—I will write and produce the finished product to your specifications. Or, use The Hydro-radio
commercials; a proven commodity: modified, to include your store name, location, etc.

Hydro rate card:
$250 each, for thirties or sixties.

If you spend $2000, you save 15% off of your schedule: $300 bucks. You've paid for production,
and you’ve invested in your store’s future with well-thought out commercials that work.
